Open burning is the burning of dry leaves and branches outside of a burning container. This may be done, with great care for safety, between the hours of 3:30pm and 12:00 midnight, Monday through Friday and from 8:00am until 12:00 midnight on Saturdays. TO CHECK ON IF THERE IS A BURNING BAN OR Outside of those hours you may call 715 723-5488 for a verbal permit or to check for burning bans. All burning is prohibited during burning bans due to dry and windy conditions. A responsible person must attend all fires while any burning is in progress, and this person is liable for any damages resulting from an out of control fire. Burning Barrel: Burning in a private burning barrel is still allowed in this township but with restrictions. Only clean, dry paper, leaves, cardboard and unpainted, unfinished wood may be burned in your barrel. The barrel must be fire-proof and be covered with a ¼ inch wire mesh while burning. Burning other household garbage produces many toxins which people, including you, may breathe. Some of these are irritants and can cause serious asthmatic reactions. Others can cause cancer and other diseases and ailments. Have you ever hung your fresh laundry out to get that clean, fresh smell in them and then the neighbor burns his garbage? Please be considerate of your neighbors. Barrel burning is prohibited from dusk to dawn and on Sundays and legal holidays.
