We are located in the south east corner of Chippewa County which is well known as apple orchard country. Per the 2010 Census our population is 5,765 residents.
Lake Wissota, a reservoir created in 1917, is surrounded on the south by our town. The lake is a popular recreation destination for boating, canoeing, fishing, water skiing, and swimming. In 2007, Ray’s Beach, located on County Hwy X, was totally revamped and updated for recreational use such as swimming and picnics.
The unincorporated community of Bateman is also located in the town. We are served by the Chippewa Falls Area Unified School District and the School District of Cadott Community
The Town Board holds their monthly meetings on the 1st and 3rd Monday’s of each month at 7:00 PM at the Town Hall located at 5765 197th Street, next to Fire Station #3 and the Lafayette Sports and Recreation Park. Agendas are posted at the Town Hall, Gordy’s Market, Citizen’s State Bank and Northwestern Bank, as well as on this website under “Agendas”. Legal notices are published in the Chippewa Herald Telegram. There is a drop box located on the south side of the Town Hall entryway for tax payments and misc. mail drop off.
