The Town has received questions regarding the possibility of data centers locating within the Town of Lafayette. The following information is provided for clarification.
FYI: Data centers are not addressed in the zoning ordinance and an amendment would be needed in order to place one anywhere.
Section 70-102(f) of the zoning ordinance, "Unspecified or Unclassified Use," states:
"Such uses may be permitted by the Committee after the Committee has made a review and recommendation, provided that such uses are similar in character to the principal uses in the recommended district."
There is nothing within our ordinance even remotely close to these types of uses. Therefore, it would need an ordinance amendment—approved by a majority of the zoned towns and the County Board—in order to move forward with such a proposal.
This information is being provided to clarify the Town's current zoning regulations as they relate to data centers. If you have any questions, please contact the Town Office.
